Description
Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola, of Cantina Giardino, work in the high hills of Campania to champion and preserve the region’s native varieties, old vines, and an age-old way of tending them.
Their Fra comes from a parcel of 30-year-old Falanghina vines. It spends 4 days fermenting on skins before being pressed into large chestnut casks for a year of aging. The rocky soils are influenced by the local volcano, Mount Taburno, which imparts a fine-grained and intense minerality over a salty finish to the wine. The skin contact also provides a balanced textural grip without overwhelming the palate. Their approach is always to retain the ‘true’ sense of the wine, without additions or filtering before bottling.
Falanghina is commonly drunk alongside seafood in Italy, and the textural yet fresh nature of Fra lends itself to be a perfect accompaniment to a variety of local favourite seafood dishes.
