Description
The history of the Evening Land site holds many chapters, seeing Raj and Sashi becoming the vineyard’s custodians since 2014. This milestone also marked 30 years since the first plantings on the site. It is located in the Eola-Amity Hills of the Willamette Valley, Oregon. The name of Evening Land Vineyards was inspired by the lure of Homer’s ideal garden and is the final chapter of Homer’s Odyssey.
The Seven Springs Estate Chardonnay comes from a unique block of young vines at the southern edge of the Seven Springs vineyard which adjoins a rich Douglas fir forest. A mix of Burgundian clones of Chardonnay is planned facing north-west. It was barrel fermented using natural yeasts in French oak with roughly 30% being new. It saw around 12 months in barrel before a further 6 months of élevage in-tank prior to bottling.
The detailed expression of the wine represents a culmination of old vines farmed biodynamically with knowledgeable touch, for one of the region’s most compelling examples.
